After the installation, I was told that a system update would happen. It was reading directly from the disk and got about 80% complete when I got this message. The box then rebooted itself.
Now, everytime I turn on the console, I get a message saying that my console will be updated and it goes through the process of trying to update and fails at the 80%. After I OK the failure, the box somewhat resets itself (but doesn't power off) and then I get the main menu shown. When I select my Mii, it then says that it's checking online capabilities and then says that my console needs a system update and directs me to the tools to do so. It then tries again to update if I say OK. If I cancel out of that, it allows me to continue.
I looked at the internet to see if there was a solution for this. No one has one. I tried ringing the 1-800-255-3700 number, but the person who I talked to didn't have a clue about that this error might be, even though the website message says that "Specially trained representatives will be available to assist you, 6:00am - 7:00pm (PST), seven days a week."
I am located in Perth, Western Australia. When I contact my local Nintendo Support in the eastern states, they just tell me to pack up my console and send it in along with my receipt. I told them that it was over a year old and they said that I would then have to pay for the 'repair' and that it would take 4 to 5 weeks for them to look at it.
This is really unacceptable. Can't *anyone* at Nintendo figure out what is going wrong with this? I see *lots* of people on the internet struggling with this issue, but not a solution in sight. I had an old Nintendo WII box, but have not done any transfer of things from the old box to the new box. I have also not had any mods done to either the new or old box. I have games from the old box that I play on the new box, but that's it.
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!
