Gamepad range extremely low

Hiya! I've recently been playing a lot more on my Wii U, but over the course of 2 years, the gamepad's range has decreased. At its current state the gamepad can be touching the console itself and still give an unstable connection, or disconnect completely. I'd be ok with this is it weren't for splatoon, which requires the gamepad to be connected to play. Should I simply send in my gamepad into nintendo or is there something that I can do to fix it myself? Thank you in advance!
