Wii U overheating causes FPS drops?

Sorry if this ends up being posted twice. I don't know how much I should wait for the mods to check the content before publishing it. I'm doing this in case there wss an error with my last post.

I get many framerate drops when playing splatoon when there's a lot going on. I know it is to be expected but I've seen other people play smoothly. It mostly happens on ranked battles and in maps such as Museum, Mahi Mahi,Triggerfish, etc. A person told me it is mostly due to connection issues. I have good download speed 1200 kbps but abysmal upload 60 kbps. I'll get better bandwith soon, so if that's the problem, then it'll be resolved.

I was also thinking about overheating, can it cause the fps drop? I've never had my console shut down by itself  and it's in a well ventilated area. This comes to my mind, because it's been three years with the Wii U and no proper cleaning. From time to time I would use a brush to remove some of the dust from the side vents (not the one with the fan). However, it doesn't look extremely dusty.

When playing, almost all of the wii u is cool but the backside is warm (above the fan when the wii u is in its horizontal position).

I want to discard the overheating thing, and that why I'm asking. But, if it were overheating, wouldn't it affect other games too? And that's not the case. I can play smash perfectly.

Please tell me your experiences with splatoon and tips in how to clean my console if necessary.

NOTES: Splatoon is a physical copy but I do have a HDD conected. All of Splatoon's files are in the console regardless.

Thanks
