Can I play Xenoblade Chronicles X without my gamepad?

        Help me please!!! Is there anyway possible that I can type in my characters name without using the gamepad touch screen???
I can't progress any further than the customization of my character and the first cutscene after that... but then it says I need to type my name on the gamepad. I've tried everything. D-pad on pro-controller and the gamepad, but nothing works. My gamepad screen is cracked and I can't afford to repair or replace it. My brother had a hard time affording Xenoblade itself! There has to be a way around this! We're not rich people.
